Senses Fail’s Buddy Nielsen talks touring
It’s not hard to get into Senses Fail’s aggressive, pulse-pounding rock found on songs such as “Sick or Sane” and “Calling All Cars”. The title of their latest album, “Still Searching” (2006), is indicative of what you will hear lyrically when you pop in the disc. Introspection and uncertainty become thematic elements throughout the album. This Friday the quintet from New Jersey play at The Canopy Club with From Autumn to Ashes and Inept. Senses Fail’s lead singer Buddy Nielsen checked in with On The Town to talk about the current tour.
The band is mixing regular shows in with a handful of dates on the Zumiez Couch Tour. That tour is a string of free shows accompanied by various skateboarding teams. Nielsen said Wednesday’s stop in Chicago went very well.
“It was a free show, so even if you don’t like us you don’t have to be pissed off you paid any money,” he said.
Friday night’s show in Urbana is not part of the Zumiez Couch Tour (imagine skateboarders in The Canopy Club?)
“Normal shows are very aggressive, it’s going to be very hot, probably gonna be drunk and gonna say something really stupid … I’m not picking on you, I try to pick on everybody,” Nielsen said.
So don’t be offended if some undesirable words fly your way. Just enjoy the energy of the show. Nielsen said the songs from “Still Searching” are built for the live setting.
“I like playing every song off that record. I think they’re all good live songs. A big thing about our band is that we want it to translate live,” he said.
Nielsen said the band also keeps fans in mind while putting together their sets.
“Every time that we make a set we try to include as much stuff as possible so that everybody can be like ‘here’s my song’,” he said.
Nielsen said Senses Fail will tour with New Found Glory in the fall and then write their new album.
