Summer Camp, Post #1: Getting it all right is a pain

1:22 am —

I am currently in the ticket booth at the Summer Camp Music Festival in Chillicothe, Illinois. Since we got set up and such so late, we couldn’t get in touch with any managers. Luckily, the ladies in the ticket booth were very helpful, and allowed me to keep this coverage as updated as possible.

When Face (photojournalist) and I got into Chillicothe, we went to the local Kroger’s to buy some food. As we were checking out, we noticed all the workers were wearing tie dye. Amy, our cashier, told us that they were allowed to wear whatever they wanted to this weekend. As we were leaving, a kid that looked no older than 17 walked up to the line and said “Amy, I’m going to get so loaded tonight!”

I have a feeling that is going to sum up the entire weekend. Hopefully I am proven wrong.

When we got into the festival grounds, we got our press passes and wristbands, no problems. We got to a camp site, and we started to set up the tent we borrowed from our colleague Sue. As we took it out of the bag…we found out there were no poles.

So…we drove to a Peoria Wal-Mart, bought a tent and some other camping stuff. We got back to the festival for our second try, which went down fine. Our neighbor was nice, and very hippie-esque, as are 80 percent of who is attending. I have a feeling this weekend will make or break my view of hippies. Let’s hope they make it.

Alright, I’m going to bed. It’s late, and I just finished transcribing my interview with Erin Fein from Headlights, who will be playing tomorrow (or today?) at 11 a.m. See you later.

P.S. I think my fee for using the ticket booth is to say how nice the workers in here are. They really are doing a great job, and it is amazing the amount of stuff they have to put up with. They are troopers.

P.P.S. I have not slept in a tent since I was 13. It’s going to be…nice?
