Two things I never thought I’d say

6:26 pm —

Juan Pierre played the hero for the second time in three days and Len Kasper and Bob Brenly are quickly becoming my heroes.

Pierre made the Cubs bullpen pay again again Sunday, this time getting hit by a pitch to end the game.

On Friday, Pierre hit the go-ahead sac fly to take the game from the Cubs.

After that game, I questioned Lou Piniella’s bullpen decisions and I feel the same way right now, but why beat a dead horse?

What I’m especially enjoying are Kasper and Brenly’s remarks, which are seemingly in agreement with my own.

On Sunday they questioned why Piniella removed Angel Guzman from the game and put Carlos Marmol in to intentionally walk the first hitter he faced. The standard convention is to have the departing pitcher intentionally walk the hitter so as not to throw off the strike zone of the incoming one.

And wouldn’t you know it, Pierre got hit by a pitch way out of the zone to end the game.

Just, out.
