Yes, a few years ago the Daily Illini ran an anti-Semitic comic strip by Matt Vroom. Yes, last year the Daily Illini foolishly republished the Islamophobic Danish cartoons that provoked violence in the Middle East and offended Muslims around the world.

But, hey, at least we’re not running columns titled “Rape Only Hurts If You Fight It”! We leave that to the Recorder, the student newspaper of Central Connecticut State University. The column’s lede:

Most people today would claim that rape is a terrible crime almost akin to murder, but I strongly disagree. Far from a vile act, rape is a magical experience that benefits society as a whole. I realize many of you will disagree with this thesis, but lend me your ears and I’m sure I’ll sway you towards a darkened alley.

The column was written by the Recorder’s opinions editor, John Petroski, who is probably giggling to himself over all the attention he’s surely receiving in response to the gag. Giggling or not, he’s the epitome of white trash. I’d say it’s to be expected of somebody attending Central Connecticut State University, except we’ve seen some white trash walking the grounds right here at our beloved UIUC.
