What would a Chief victory in the trustee campaign mean to the Campus?
12:14 pm —
Sorry to interrupt the regular posting by Opinions Staff, but wanted to see what people thought about this. The 2001 incident of a comic strip character winning a seat in student government was a vote of no confidence. Would a Chief victory mean the same against the Board of Trustees, a vote of protest for the retirement, or something else?

It would be a vacuous and pointless stunt, meaning nothing and accomplishing nothing, and therefore is perfectly suited for the student government.

I would mean mean that the chief could again dance at Board of Trustee meetings!

Front page of 2/28 Daily Herald (Paddock Pub.),Palatine, IL issue told of a debate-Coke vs. Pepsi, with the bottling company offering to pay the most money being annointed the “official cola” of U/I, thereby being granted sole distribution of its product in all campus vending machines–336 (or so) of them, resulting in one million dollars in revenue to the State of IL–the same govt’l.body, headed by liberal Emil Jones, who strongly urged the Chief’s retirement. If all students boycotted vending machines & bought soft drinks at Wal-Mart, et al, this would send a strong message to gov’t. & NCAA officials to tend to more important issues & leave “tradition” alone. Soon, no one will know about native Americans! Do-gooders are goofy!

Barb,
I find it disturbing that you think the best and only way that people will “know about native-Americans” is through the Cheif. Perhaps, since nothing but his garb resembles anything having to do with native americans, people are better off learning about native americans in other venues. Say, school, for example…instead of at basketball games.

When are the Whining Illini going to find something new to whine about ? The Chief is obsolete.

Kevin is obsolete. I love it when the anti-crowd accuse the pro-Chief crowd of “whining” when they had done nothing but for the last 20 years.
