Some deadly words from our 9th president
While I’m on the topic of inaugural addresses (refer to my last post), my inner geek can’t help but pay homage to the juggernaut that leveled our ninth president, William Henry Harrison.
Although Harrison had the shortest presidency in American history (lasting exactly thirty days — sorry Garfield), his inaugural address was the longest ever delivered, taking a little more than two hours to complete. Unfortunately, during the day of Harrison’s inaugural ceremony, the weather wasn’t cooperative; and while delivering his address to the public, the Hero of Tippecanoe caught a cold that eventually manifested into a deadly case of pneumonia.
So, if you’re as giddy about history as I am, check out this link to William Henry Harrison’s first and only inaugural address – the speech to end all speeches!
