We want to be heard.

It’s not that we don’t love reading sports articles all day long and fixing them for error. We just would like an opportunity to be creative other than deciding whether or not power play is hyphenated.

Not that we’re complaining. We like our jobs. We enjoy the power. Every day is new problems, new arguments, new decisions and new solutions. The responsibilities of a sports editor are stressful but 100 percent fulfilling at the same time. After all, we are producing the section of the DI that the students might actually read.

As great as that is, our names can only be found in small print on page 2A and we are very vain people. Sports mean everything to us. We revolve our lives around Illinois basketball, Bears post-Super Bowl depression, MLB scouting reports, NBA highlights, each and every Illini sport, both men and women’s, and even the mildly obscure sports like horse racing and such. It’s only fitting that the individuals who spend almost 25 hours a week working with sports get a chance to speak their minds on the subject.

So here it is, The Daily Illini sports desk online sports blog. All three editors will contribute to the blog whenever one of us has something to say. And we have a lot to say. Updates will hopefully be daily, or whenever we find the time between watching Duke-UNC replays and catching up on the latest hot-stove reports. Feel free to comment whenever you please, whether you agree or disagree. We may not have the eloquence of Rick Reilly, Peter Gammons or Bill Simmons, but we assure any sports fan out there, we won’t waste your time.

Or maybe we will. But who cares. We just want to be heard.
